In an interview for the international legal publication CEE Legal Matters, our partner Pavel Hristov shared his thoughts and insights of what is current and what is likely to happen in the near future.

In brief, the Bulgarian M&A market is maturing and this is happening on different levels (please read the interview here).

Essentially two industries drive the growth: technology and energy, which both experience a fundamental transformation and exponential growth themselves. The challenges in those industries are existential and the competitive pressure, the need for scale, speed and decisiveness, creates a strong demand for capital (funding and talent) and professional services to assist in all that accelerated investment in a new generation of assets.

The new type of assets, say AI and all the supporting infrastructure around it, from data, through chips to power stations, batteries, satellites, rockets and data centers are difficult to evaluate for many reasons. None of such assets could and should be assessed separately, in isolation from the system they form a part of, and all, the elements and the systems, are changing dynamically. To make things even more complex – the legal environment, laws and regulations, do not develop rapidly enough to give comfort and legal certainty that was taken for granted before in many jurisdictions. Not anymore. Those assets demand expansive and special competence and foresight from the professional advisers and lawyers in particular.

We know for certain that we take each mandate with caution and attention to the evolving changes in the assets, system and the industry, and our clients’ business goals.
